Embankment Place is actually built on hydraulic stilts due to the marshy ground. As a result, as it fills up with people during the day, the stilts contract and the building sinks a little.

Question: which Big 8 firm originally signed for Embankment Place given that it has been continually occupied by the same firm.

Charles,

I like the trivia but have no idea who originally signed up for this building...

It was Deloitte Haskins & Sells.

This was the firm formed from the merger of Deloitte Plender Griffiths in the UK and Haskins & Sells in the US.

When DH&S International merged with Touche Ross, the UK firm chose to merge with Coopers & Lybrand who, subsequently, merged with Price Waterhouse.

That is why, if you are ever talking to D&T people, don't forget to remind them that PwC is the real Deloitte.
