Some household things common in the UK:
The shower. The idea of keeping water in the shower/tub area does not apply. 99% of the flats we saw last year had this arrangement. I've been to some hotels on business travel this year that don't even have the 1/4 wall that you see here. I just don't get it...
This is a large one, we were told. I have to admit, we buy a lot less food and throw away much less. But yes, we hit the grocery store 2-3 times per week.Washer and dryer... All in one. Yes, a novel idea. When we moved here, we thought the US was ages behind the UK on this front. Well... according to Beth (who I have to admit, does the laundry), the average load takes 4 hours and still comes out damp.

ha, this post is fun... and educational. I heard the other day that washers with a front door consume less energy than the ones with the door on top. Don't they realize that, because they also smaller, you end up doing laundry more often? where are the savings???
A friend of ours bought himself a dryer for 200 "quid". Sound investment.
Our laundry also takes at least 4 hours, and if you only have a few pieces in the dryer then they get dry, otherwise they are damp. And ours is brand new! It is so frustrating.
And I too can't understand why they don't embrace the idea of a shower curtain or a door that goes the full length across!
interesting differences... it's gotta be quite an effort to keep the bathroom floor dry
I am sending this blog to the kind people of American Standard Appliances.
